DANIEL DIEP: FROM VIETNAM TO THE U.S.
Growing with a strong passion for sports
I was born in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and spent my childhood growing up in a supportive family that always encouraged independence and discipline. I attended VStar School for my elementary and middle school education, where I built a strong academic foundation while discovering my biggest passion — sports.
From the age of five, sports have been a central part of my life. I started with many sports like swimming, basketball, and soccer, but tennis quickly became my true calling. What began as an interest soon became a serious commitment. With consistent training and strong family support, I started competing at eight years old and have since earned multiple district and city-level championships.
Starting a new chapter in the U.S.
At 12 years old, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life — moving to the United States to continue both my academic and athletic journey. I am currently studying at Canyon High School, where tennis is integrated into the school’s program.
Living abroad has strengthened my discipline, self-management, and independence. I’ve learned to balance academics with competitive athletics while building friendships across cultures. The environment here encourages initiative — you are expected to take ownership of your goals, your training, and your growth.
Tennis is more than a sport to me — it’s a mindset. It has shaped how I approach challenges: with focus, strategy, patience, and mental strength. Training and competing in both Vietnam and the U.S. have given me exposure to different styles of play and higher levels of competition.
Being part of a U.S. high school athletic system has also shown me how sports and education can go hand in hand. Discipline on the court translates directly into discipline in the classroom.
Shaping my future
Over the next five years, I hope to compete in higher-level USTA and national tournaments while continuing to improve my performance and ranking. One of my biggest goals is to earn the opportunity to play college tennis, ideally at the NCAA level.
At the same time, I want to stay strong academically and explore interests like Business or Sports Management. I hope to grow not only as a tennis player, but also as a responsible and well-rounded student. I know I still have a lot to learn, and I’m excited to see how far hard work and dedication can take me.
I want to grow not only as an athlete, but as a well-rounded student and future leader. Tennis has given me confidence, structure, and ambition — and I plan to use those qualities to shape the next chapter of my journey.
